Behind the discreet door at the Mandrake Hotel in Fitzrovia is a secret hidden wonderland, and visitors can now enjoy the atmospheric, Swedish-inspired ‘Jurema’ terrace for a nightcap or slap up supper.
Along with the 33 boutique bedrooms and award-winning Penthouse, this hidden gem in central London has extended its dining offerings and offers visitors a view of the stars. Whilst the main restaurant is brimming with commissioned artwork by Marco Tullio Siviglia, who has created a ‘Mycelium’ a cave-like gate where visitors enter through a branching network encrusted tentacles, the upstairs terrace is a cosy affair of faux furs and heated booths.
In keeping with the artistic direction of the hotel’s founder and art collector Rami, Fustok, the covered terrace is the perfect place to snuggle up after Christmas shopping whilst enjoying cocktails and flavoursome South American inspired dishes from the hotel’s Yopo Restaurant. With a menu designed by Executive Chef George Scott-Toft, inspired from his personal travel experiences, the terrace’s Waeska Bar is an unique ethno-botanical concept bar offering an evolving menu of cocktails using ancient herbs that are designed to enlighten.
Donning a weatherproof ceiling, comfortable seating, festive shrubbery and an abundance of Christmas fairy lights, this is the ideal hideaway. You can choose from a selection of Winter Warmers and Hot Toddies or peruse the eclectic cocktail menu for inspiration. If in doubt, the staff can advise what to pair with the new menu of exciting dishes such sharing plates of Crab, Fennel and Caviar Brioche; Sweet Potato, Salsa Macha and Goat’s Cheese Tostada or my personal favourite, Grilled Octopus with Potato Hot Smoked Paprika Pot.
The Winter Jurema Terrace is now open for walk-ins and reservations for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday – 12:00 – 23:00, and is ideal for catching up with friends or a romantic date night, whilst larger groups can hire the full terrace for up 100 guests, smaller groups can book the space for up to 30 guests, or those seeking a more intimate event can book a private table seating up to 20 guests.
