When you have been living somewhere for a while, you can find it gets a bit stagnant and no longer feels the same as when you moved in. You might not enjoy living in certain spaces anymore and could find that the home just isn’t giving you the same joy as it once did. There is nothing wrong with this and it’s totally normal, you just need to do a few tweaks and you’ll find you’ve recaptured the magic. Here are a few tips on how you can give an old room a lease of life.

Refresh existing pieces of furniture

The first thing you should look at when you want to switch up how a room looks and feels, is the furniture. And you don’t need to completely chuck it out and get new drawers and shelves either. Not only can this be costly, but also wasteful and unnecessary when you can change it up yourself instead. One of the things you can do to your furniture to give it a refresh is to give it a lick of paint. Be sure to look up how to prep and seal this properly as otherwise, it can flake off. You can also add in new feet or drawer handles that can have an instantly pleasing effect.

Upgrade your wall decor

There are a myriad of ways you can upgrade the decor of your walls. You could put new wallpaper up, change the colour scheme and pattern of your existing space, or you could simply repaint what you already have, to make it feel fresh and clean again. You could also use MDF wall panelling to create a panel effect, something that is very on-trend at the moment and can make any space look instantly sophisticated.

Change the flooring

Finally, look at the flooring you have in your room. There are a lot of ways that you can floor a space, including with laminate, tiles, carpet, wood flooring and more. Think about what you use the space for and the functionality you will need, how much you want to spend and the colours you are looking to implement. This can help you to make the right decision that will refresh the decor, but also keep it practical and fit for purpose. For example, you wouldn’t put carpet in a bathroom or kitchen!

These are just a few things you can do that can help you to give an old room a new lease of life. While you might feel tempted to move somewhere new when things start looking tired and you’re sick of them, you could soon find that actually you just needed to freshen it up in order to fall in love with it again. From refreshing the furniture you already have, to upgrading what your walls look like and changing up the floors there are so many things you can do.
