Anorak Summer Fête

SUMMER FETEThis August 31st the wonderful and magical Anorak summer fête will be marking the end of a heatwave-filled season at the Dalston children’s festival. Set in the trendy Dalston Square area, this summer fête will ensure school holidays end on an all time high. A giant playground with a variety of tents and stalls, and with activities for everyone, this family event should be noted in all parents’ diaries.

Self-described as the “happy mag for kids” Anorak is bound to provide kiddies, small ones and big ones too, with a fête to be remembered. Expect a rustic village-style fair with a twist, where you can expect quirky takes on traditional games like Pin the Beard, Hop-Hop-Hopscotch and the Giant Egg and Spoon race. And when kiddies are not carrying giant spoons, they’ll be exploring their creative side with the colouring wall. Commonly associated with the living room walls, kiddies will finally have a large canvas to live out their continuous desire to destroy a completely blank wall space. Except this time your parents won’t need to re-paint. Designed by inspiring illustrators such as Tane Williams, Katey Harvey, Manuel Grinon Montes and Grace Easton, youngsters will be transported to a world where characters and shapes follow no conventions.

Kids can also wave goodbye to nightmares as they learn how to do draw their own monsters. But if your little nipper is still afraid of the dark, there is the option of doodling a ladybird instead. Youngsters can also create a giant totem or better yet a paper pizza recipe. Parents will be happy to know that that this particular pizza can be enjoyed over and over again, and the best thing about this pizza, there is no mess.

Budding poets, and fans of Philip Larkin, will be glad to know that a crew of poets will be on hand throughout the day, to ensure they get their dosage of lyrics in iambic pentameter. So whenever you feel the urge to appreciate a few sonnets, just look for the nearest poet.

As well as their enthusiasm, make sure your little girls and boys bring their teddies to0. In the lusciously green and well secluded Dalston Eastern Curve Garden, will be a teddy picnic for all youngsters and their furry friends to enjoy. Idyllic and oh-so peaceful, both teddy bears and little ones will be able to enjoy their picnic treats in peace. Mums and dads on the other hand can tuck into some delicious Mediterranean food by the Route Café whilst enjoying the sounds of the Hackney Youth Orchestra.

With poetry, picnics and workshops galore, there will be plenty to do at Anorak’s summer fête. So head down to Dalston Square for a for a free family fair to be remembered.

The Anorak summer fête will run from 12 – 6pm.  Books, owl world badges and carousel party bags will be available to purchase at one of the stalls.
