Whether you are the groom planning for your upcoming wedding, or have just been asked to be a groomsman, one thing is for sure – preparing for a wedding can be stressful! So, to help you ensure you have thought of everything, here are 6 things every grooms-party should consider.

  1. Matching or complimentary outfits?

The first thing on any wedding checklist – after booking the venue, of course – will likely be the bride and groom’s outfits. After the groom’s outfit is sorted, it’s time to think about the grooms-party.

One idea might be to have the groomsmen wear identical suits and ties to the groom. However, some may prefer to dress the groomsmen in a completely different style or colour of suit that match one another, but compliment the groom.

For a middle ground, you might combine the two ideas together, opting for matching suits but a slightly different shade of tie. Take a look at high quality tailoring stores like T.M. Lewin for some ideas – this will also allow you to choose the exact same product but in differing colours, keeping that uniformity, but still injecting some individuality.

  1. Tie, bowtie, or cravat?

Once you have the bulk of the outfit down, you’ll want to consider the finer details – the biggest of them all being what type of tie the groomsmen should wear. Again, this depends on whether you want the grooms-party to compliment or match the groom – and, if the latter, to what extent you want them to coordinate.

As a general rule of thumb, though, cravats suit more formal, traditional weddings, whereas most modern weddings will opt for the classic tie. Though bow ties are more associated with black tie events, tweed or woollen bow ties are a fantastic option for more bohemian affairs.

  1. Don’t forget the accessories

You will also need to consider the colour of shoes, belt, cufflinks, watches, and so on that you want the grooms-party to wear. After all, there is nothing worse than putting in effort to coordinate outfits for one pair of brown shoes to stick out like a sore thumb.

  1. Boutonnieres

Boutonnieres, or buttonholes, are essentially miniature bouquets that are attached to the buttonhole of a suit. These flowers are often a smaller version of the bridal party’s bouquets. That said, you can also have a bit of fun with them, experimenting with dried flowers to keep the grooms-party smelling great all day long.

  1. Have an emergency kit to share

Bridesmaids have been doing this for decades – so take a leaf out of their book! Nominate one of the groomsmen to be the keeper of a small toiletry bag throughout the day, which you can all fill with emergency supplies. This includes things like plasters, painkillers, antacids, floss picks, mints or chewing gum, a travel sized hair spray, and lip balm.

  1. Be prepared to support the groom in any way he needs

Though the majority of the considerations here surround the way the grooms-party looks, the most important thing is to support the groom on the most special day of his life – that’s why the groomsmen were chosen after all!

With these 6 considerations in mind, the grooms-party will be more than prepared for the upcoming nuptials, ready to witness the groom marry the love of his life in style.
