It’s no secret that 2020 has been extremely tough for a number of people, not just in the UK but right across the globe as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s because of this that many people are looking to the future for a healthy dose of light at the end of the tunnel.
That’s why we’ve shared our ideas for how to make 2021 extra special to make up for time lost this year:
Embrace the small things
If 2020 has taught us anything about life, it’s to really embrace the joy in small moments. This year has been a real test for people emotionally. In fact, the Centre for Mental Health has revealed that at least half a million more people in the UK could experience mental ill health due to the pandemic. This is why it’s more important than ever to take care of yourself and loved ones and strive to find joy in the smallest of things. As 2021 gathers pace and your diary starts to fill up again, each week take the time to pause for some self care. Exercise for endorphins, go for long walks with loved ones to fill your lungs with fresh air, indulge in bubble baths, make healthy and delicious dinners and embrace a movie night in your pyjamas. Not everything has to go back to being frantically busy, take time for yourself.
Book experience days
For many, what they’ve missed more than anything is being able to spend time with loved ones. Make time to fill 2021 with happiness. Take the opportunity to buy experience gifts for Christmas – the ideal way to have something to look forward to and ensure that the year to come is special. There are many experiences you can choose from depending on who you’re buying for and it’s so much better than a pair of socks. It’s the promise of memories – and the chance to redeem them when it’s safe.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Afternoon tea voucher
- Tasting menu experience
- Adventure gifts such as skydiving or ziplining
- Trips to museums or wildlife spotting adventures
- Spa days
No matter what you choose, you can guarantee you’ll have lovely dates in the diary to look forward to, filling the year with smiles.
Do the thing you’ve always wanted
This might seem vague, but that’s because the ‘thing you’ve always wanted to do’ is totally unique to each individual person. Have you always wanted to start your own business? Write a book? Launch a side hustle? Travel to a particular destination?
Whether you’ve always dreamt of creating your own jewellery business, you want to learn how to speak Spanish or see Machu Picchu now might be the time to put pen to paper and start planning.
Even if it’s not sensible or safe to do so yet – when that moment comes around in 2021, you’ll be able to say “it’s time”.
2020 will always be remembered as a year that brought us doom and gloom. We’re ready to flip it on its head – from being able to safely hug loved ones again, to planning days out and having experiences we’ve been starved of, let’s make 2021 sparkle.
