Hotel Rochechouart, Paris

As soon as you step through the doors of Hotel Rochechouart you’re transported to another time, specifically to the roaring twenties when glitz and glamour adorned every inch of this Art deco beauty.

Today, Hotel Rochechouart has been brought stylishly up to date by design due Feston who have preserved the essence of a jazz age gone by and embraced its old-fashioned charm and Art deco design features. The mustard fringe furnishings and velvet stools are particularly good looking, not to mention the most impressive mosaic floor, once graced by the legendary Josephine Baker. Like the French themselves, there’s an understated chicness throughout the hotel.

This includes the food, which alone will put Rochechouart back on the map. Served in a grand dame of a room exuding such class and character, is a menu of classic French cuisine done exceptionally well. Choose from succulent scallops,  turbot cooked to perfection and the famous French childhood classic, Île flottante. There’s also a very stylish Citrons et Huîtres Oyster Bar next door designed by interior architect, Marion Mailaender, enticing guests with its blue hues, it will be hard to walk past this summer without pulling up a stool for fresh seafood and a glass of Champagne.

Fun awaits downstairs at Le Mikado from Thursday to Saturday, the hotel’s legendary nightclub, once home to roller-skating waiters and often frequented by Maurice Chevalier and Jean Gabin.  Now it’s a beautiful basement club with sumptuous seating, Japanese lanterns and a gorgeous centre bar.

Upstairs there are 106 rooms boasting views across Paris, with some suites offering a direct view of the Sacre Coeur. The beds are huge and comfortable, and the rooms overall are complete with all the necessities for a comfortable stay. But it’s the hidden gem of a rooftop with views of the twinkling Eiffel Tower that will soon prove to be the star of the show when it opens next month.

Once you’ve arrived at Hotel Rochechouart it’s hard to leave, but there’s some comfort in knowing time travel does it exist and it’s only a Eurostar away.

Prices at Hotel Rochechouart start from 200 Euros per room per night, including breakfast.
